Wollie Shelley has worked quite a few odd jobs in the past but her newest offer may actually be worth it. After serving jury duty, Wollie meets the defendant, Yuri Milos. Yuri owns MediasRex, a company that teaches proper etiquette to foreign nationals. He wants to hire Wollie to work for three months teaching people to act American and is willing to pay her $50,000.
Wollie isn’t sure about the job but when the FBI tells her to take it and that she will be working undercover for them, she goes for it. After all, the FBI guarantees that they will make sure her schizophrenic brother P.B. gets to stay in the halfway home that he loves–and no one matters more to Wollie then P.B.
After someone turns up dead and the case gets very shady, Wollie starts to think twice about whether this job was the right one to take. Will Wollie make it out alive and ensure her brother a permanent home in the halfway house?
A Date You Can’t Refuse is a fun mystery mixed with some humor and romance that cozy fans will surely enjoy. Wollie is always getting herself into mischief, and it’s amusing to see how she will get herself out of every new situation. The story was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat trying to uncover the mystery.
Harley Jane Kozak’s books are always entertaining, and I greatly enjoyed reading her latest Wollie Shelley mystery. While this is a series, each book can be read independently without the reader being lost for any info. I look forward to reading Kozak’s next book in the hopes of finding out more about Wollie’s boyfriend and her schizophrenic brother P.B.
Armchair Interviews says: Nice offering for those who love cozy mysteries.
