Katie Miller is staying with her grandparents in Florida. Her cousin Loraine asks Katie to be an attendant in her wedding back in Indiana, but Katie doesn’t want to go home. She’d be planning her own wedding right now if Timothy hadn’t been killed in an accident.
The opening is filled with poignant memories of the day Katie lost a number of her friends and relatives in an accident she blames on herself. Wanda Brunstetter does a wonderful job of slipping in a tiny bit of humor to lighten the heavy mood just enough to let you know the book will be filled with both sorrow and gladness.
Coming home is difficult for Katie until someone leaves her an unexpected gift. The gift opens up doors and helps her understand more about herself. As she begins to work through her fears, she also must decide if she will open her heart once again to love.
Friendships, love, jealousy, hope, family, and faith permeate the book. Wanda Brunstetter allows the reader a small glimpse into life in the Amish community. Her story widens out to include and is applied to our own circle of family, friends and neighbors.
During the course of the book the reader once again meets with the many cousins and learns the details of their lives since the last book. Without distracting from the present book the reader is prepared for the next book in the series.
Armchair Interviews says: A well-written 5-star read.
