Books Make a Difference
Normal reading for me (pre-Armchair Interviews) was usually a book a girlfriend or my sister recommended. I didn't stray far from reading the same kind of stories.
NOW...this reviewing books has most certainly opened my eyes to the wide variety of topics people write about that they have great passion for--and the interesting bio/autobiographies and memoirs I have read. Then there's the fiction, some of the story has embedded in my mind, maybe forever.
What is most exciting us is that SO MANY books are still being ranked by our reviewers as a 4 on a scale of 5, and an outstanding number of books are ranked 5. This is a book you'd "hand-sell" to anyone who will listen to you.
Andrea reads children's books because she has a gaggle of grandchildren, and she reads mysteries (not because she is a mystery) but because she loves them--and writes them.
Frequently we say to each other: You just have to read this book...! Alas, usually we have 4-5 already in our reading/reviewing que.
I read mostly non-fiction: business, marketing, self-help (no comment required). She also reads bio/autobiographies (often about movies stars or musicians--of which she will be neither but her one kids works in the movies, sadly too long after MOST of the great ones are gone to movie heaven).
The other day I read a lovely little children's book published in Ely, Minnesota, up in God's Country of the skyblue waters. Each page was illustrated by the author in a way that I wanted to frame it. I read this book because I have been in that area, and felt drawn to the message.
Books do make a difference. The stories make us think, or laugh, or cry, or get angry. The ones that teach something like decorating, business, finance or health matters, are important too.
When I find myself quoting or writing down great lines from a book, I know I was supposed to read it. Although marketers try, you can't really tell a good book by its cover--so open up a book today. You bought the ticket, not enjoy the trip.

I love this Connie. Two books that immediately came to mind are: The Red Tent and Memoirs of a Geisha. Ok, 3 I guess, I have to add: Eat, Pray, Love. I wish that every book reeled me in and left an imprint on me the way that those three books did. Whenever someone asks for a book I just loved, those three come right to mind. Your post made me smile just thinking of my favorites. Also, I never think to look at children's books, but now I want to read the one from Ely, sounds like taking a trip without leaving the armchair!
Thanks Connie!
